India Proposes Streamlined Halal Certification Process for Meat and Meat Products Export

The Government of India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced draft guidelines for streamlining the Halal certification process for export of meat and meat products from India. According to the proposed guidelines, all meat and meat products to be exported as “Halal certified” must be produced, processed, and packed under a valid certificate issued by a Certification Body accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) and the Quality Council of India (QCI) under the India Conformity Assessment Scheme (i-CAS) -Halal. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) will act as the overall monitoring agency for this purpose. The draft guidelines are available for public and industry comments and feedback, and comments should be sent to moc_epagril@nic.in by February 17, 2023.
