Indian Customs issues clarification on implementation of origin procedures under India-Australia ECTA

The Indian government’s Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs has issued an instruction to Customs officials regarding the implementation of origin procedures under the India-Australia ECTA. The instruction clarifies that electronic Certificates of Origin (e-COO) issued by Australian authorities in the prescribed format with authorized seals and signatures will be accepted for preferential benefits under the ECTA. The e-COOs must be uploaded on e-Sanchit by the importer or customs broker, and a printed copy must be presented to the customs officer for defacement purposes. The instruction also clarifies certain requirements and practices related to COOs under the ECTA.
